The need for standards to allow interoperability of process models has been felt for long. XPDL2.1 has been one standard modeling notation. OMG has been working on the BPMN2.0 standard for sometime and probably the first product vendor to announce support of this format is Lombardi. Check out their press release announcing this.

Google Wave and BPM

SAP’s Gravity demo is indicative of what is likely to happen to collaborative activities in process discovery. Not that no one has thought of it before – most every BPM vendor offering a cloud version has already introduced feature elements of social networking. Lombardi BluePrint for example allows multiple process stakeholders to participate in process discovery and consolidates each change to the process – be it insertion of a comment, change in a workstep attribute, addition of a performer, etc….

Dr. Rosemann blogs about using BPM and Twitter, Sandy adds some more insight, blogs and tweets, people blog, comment and tweet for a bit and in less than a week, a BPM product Vendor releases a new Feature! Talk about the influence of Social Media on Social Media!!

Pega’s result has emphasized an increasing belief in the value of investing in BPMS despite tough times. Pega’s license revenue went up 61% from the first half of 2008. This growth is perhaps more than the growth the market itself has seen. Organisations are really interested in not just cost savings, but also becoming more competitive and closer to customers. Maybe its not a coincidence Pega has offerings around CRM too. Incidentally, Intalio does too. Can’t wait for Intalio’s results.

The Future of BPM: A Storm Before Calm?

Many BPM product vendors have announced impressive results and as Scott Francis mentions in this post, BPM companies have really started to crow about their growth despite the recession. While there’s a wee bit of understandable scepticism about the validity of those claims, they do tie-in to market outlook from months ago predicting a higher investment in technologies such as BPM that will help organizations minimise cost and improve efficiency. Jim Sinur in this insightful post titled Is BPM becoming…

Social Media: What’s In It For Business?

Even if you take all the generous media attention and coverage away, the social media wave seems to be certainly picking momentum. And I don’t say that just by looking at the number of sign-ups Facebook has each day or how many tweets get fired each second. That doesn’t really suggest an organization should invest in this new trend. What seemed like a fad for college kids has soon made analysts, IT decision makers and vendors sit up and seriously…

Happened to be browsing channels tonight on TV when I chanced upon this ad of  Naukri (a job search portal like Monster.com) that had made headlines in 2006. That’s right, 06 – a time when markets were in the pink of health and the biggest anxieties and challenges of IT companies were tackling attrition figures. Realize this ad is being aired again after a really long time. Cant help thinking if it is a sign of some sort. Are we…

For some reason, didn’t think IDS Scheer was the kind that would be acquired. But this is news that took time to digest. It will be interesting to see how Software AG ups its value with Aris products and how the company ups the value of the Aris productline. Seems from a customer base pov, S/w AG has more to accept than offer – 4000 to 7500 from IDS. But thats not really the big benefit. As JK mentions whether…

Its incredible how much value can be added to process improvement when you enable a social networking concept within your process stakeholders and participants. Lombardi’s blueprint is definitely path breaking. But what kind of shift in working styles does it demand from users?

Came across this interesting article by J William Gurley (find it here) from way back in 2003. The value proposition of BPM must have sounded great back then. But here in 2009 BPM has certainly become mainstream, yet somehow it doesnt seem to have filled up to the potential and the promise it had from back then. At least in my opinion. What do you think? Agree? Disagree? And why?
